Review - Hatchet 3 (Decker Shado film review)

Wiki Article

Hatchet 3 is the horror film of 2013 in the Hatchet series. It chronicles Victor Crowley's continuing adventures as well as his escapade across Louisiana's Honey Island Swamp. Kane Hodder stars as Victor Crowley, Brian Quinn plays Deputy Winslow and Rileah Vanderbilt plays Misty.

Its practical special effects are the film's biggest strengths. Hatchet 3 is a horror movie that uses CG effects less than many others. Hatchet 3 has a lot of practical makeup effects and sets that result in some truly terrifying scenes in the movie.

The cast gives a strong performance, with Kane (blog) Hodder standing out as an incredibly intimidating villain. The dialogue is so funny and tongue-in cheek that it can feel like a classic '80s horror movie. There are instances of humor in the film which add humour to bloody action.

The problem is that the budget is extremely small (reportedly one million dollars) the majority of locations used in the film are reused locations from previous films in series. For example, the same boathouse was used twice within the movie. A lot of the locations seem like they were reused from previous films from this series. For those who have seen Hatchet or Hatchet 2, this can sometimes make the film appear familiar.

Overall, I enjoyed Hatchet 3 even though it felt very similar to prior entries in this series--it offered lots of bloody thrills as well as entertaining performances from its cast members.
